Many of you knew and loved Charlie but for those of you who didn’t, Charlie was the most amazing, caring and loving little boy. He had a love of art, football, cricket and rugby playing in Exmouth & Lympstone teams from an early age. He loved his school, his huge group of friends and his family especially his brothers Rian and Jack.
He was always so positive, smiling and had an amazing love for life.
In early summer 2022 Charlie started to become unwell. He experienced headaches and sickness on waking with the episodes become more frequent and closer together. Two days before his 7th birthday we were given the life changing news that Charlie had been diagnosed with a grade 4 Medulloblastoma brain tumour.
Having undergone surgery, rehabilitation to learn how to walk, talk and write again, 30 rounds of radiotherapy and 9 months of chemotherapy he finally got the all clear in August 2023.
Sadly in November 2023 we learnt that the cancer had returned however this time to Charlie's spine. He was so brave and strong and did amazingly well but he sadly passed away in January 2024, aged 8, just weeks after the relapse.
We wanted a living way of remembering Charlie and felt a beach school would be a fantastic idea.
Charlie had a real love for sea life and the beach. He loved going to our local beach in Exmouth to play and do a litter pick - a free treasure hunt with the added benefit of doing good by cleaning up the beach and sea for others and helping Mother Nature.
In setting up the beach school Charlie’s legacy will benefit not only his friends and family but the wider community in Exmouth and beyond for generations to come.
