In April 2024, in memory of Charlie, we set up ‘The Charlie Duignan Foundation’ as a registered charity. The main purpose of the charity is to create a beach school in Exmouth.
The beach school aims primarily to help children, both local and visiting, by giving them access to the beach and seaside in a positive, fun and informative way. Our vision is to get as many children interested in visiting the beach as possible, particularly those children who have not been given that opportunity before.
The sessions will be run year round (some weather dependent) and will vary in nature but include beach cleans - looking at what is found and how this can be recycled, reused or conserved. This free activity will allow the whole family or large groups and the wider community involved and raise their awareness too.
Other sessions will include beach art, sports and learning more about the coastline, sealife and bird life as well as talks and demonstrations on beach and water safety.
In September 2024 we finally secured a premises for the beach school within the Sideshore development just metres from the beach. This will provide a base which will help us deliver the beach school sessions year round and therefore our recent fundraising has been focussed on raising funds to help with the associated costs of the building, furnishings and providing the sessions.
Thank you so much for supporting us and we look forward to welcoming you to the beach school soon!
